Why are vitamins important?

Vitamins are organic compounds in food that are needed to support growth and health. With a regular supply of nutrients, we can support good health and normal growth. Since the body does not store all essential vitamins for long periods of time, some should be consumed regularly in the diet. One A Day® multivitamins can be taken to help provide nutritional support.*

Women's Prenatal

One A Day® Women's Prenatal Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ingredient DHA in One A Day® Women's Prenatal? As a pregnant woman or a woman thinking of becoming pregnant, why do I need it?

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is an Omega-3 fatty acid found naturally in fish such as tuna and salmon. It is a major structural fat in your baby's brain and the retina of your baby's eyes. As many pregnant women are advised to limit the intake of fish, supplementing your diet with DHA can help support healthy fetal brain and eye development.*

Is it safe to take One A Day® Women's Prenatal over-the-counter?

Yes, it is safe for most women to take One A Day® Women's Prenatal. See the product page for specific warnings and allergen statements. One A Day Women's Prenatal includes 800 mcg of Folic Acid (100% of the Daily Value for pregnant women). Inform your doctor if you are taking One A Day Women's Prenatal.

When should I start taking One A Day® Women's Prenatal? When should I stop?

The benefits of a prenatal multivitamin generally begin at conception or in the very early stages of pregnancy. Prenatal multivitamin use, then, is commonly recommended to start before trying to become pregnant. Also, because pregnancy is sometimes unplanned, some sources recommend extra folic acid intake during the span of a woman's childbearing years. Use of One A Day® Women's Prenatal should be consistent throughout pregnancy and continued while breastfeeding as DHA will pass from mother to baby in breast milk to help support healthy brain and eye development in infancy.*

Do both the tablet and liquid gel in One A Day® Women's Prenatal need to be taken at the same time?

No, you may take the tablet and liquid gel together or at different times of the day with food.

Why is there less calcium in One A Day® Women's Prenatal than in One A Day® Women's? Do I need to take a separate calcium supplement?

The recommended intake of calcium for an adult pregnant woman is 1,000 mg per day. This level would be too large to swallow if included in a complete multivitamin tablet. Women who are pregnant may supplement their dietary calcium intake with separate calcium supplements, such as Citracal®. Inform your doctor if you are taking a supplement.

Are there benefits to taking One A Day® Women's Prenatal while breast-feeding?

Yes, if you are breast-feeding, the Omega-3 DHA in One A Day® Women’s Prenatal can be passed from mother to baby in breast milk. DHA helps support healthy brain and eye development in infancy.*

I noticed that One A Day® now offers a prenatal multivitamin product in one single softgel per serving, in addition to a multivitamin tablet/liquid gel as found in One A Day® Women’s Prenatal. Are you going to continue to offer One A Day® Women’s Prenatal consisting of the tablet and liquid gel?

Yes, One A Day® will now offer both products.

Why did One A Day® introduce One A Day® Prenatal 1, a prenatal multivitamin in a single soft gel form in addition to One A Day® Women’s Prenatal, a product that contains a multivitamin tablet and DHA/EPA liquid gel per serving?

One A Day® wanted to give expectant mothers options in terms of swallowability. Some women prefer to take just one pill and may prefer the softgel form over tablets. Other women would rather take two smaller pills.

How does the size of the softgel, as found in One A Day® Women’s Prenatal 1, compare to the size of the multivitamin tablet or DHA/EPA liquid gel as found in One A Day® Women’s Prenatal?

The One A Day® Prenatal 1 softgel is larger than either the multivitamin tablet or the DHA/EPA liquid gel in One A Day® Women’s Prenatal.

Can I cut or crush the One A Day® Women’s Prenatal 1 softgel?

The One A Day® Women’s Prenatal 1 softgel should not be cut or crushed.

Is there a difference in price between the new One A Day® Women’s Prenatal 1 multivitamin and the existing One A Day® Women’s Prenatal?

No, the list price for the 30 ct size of the new One A Day® Women’s Prenatal 1 softgel is the same as the list price for the 30 ct + 30 ct size of One A Day® Women’s Prenatal.

Are there any differences in the ingredients contained in the new One A Day® Prenatal 1 softgel and the ingredients contained in One A Day® Women’s Prenatal?

Yes, there are differences. The new One A Day® Women’s Prenatal 1 softgel contains less calcium than One A Day® Women’s Prenatal (200 mg vs. 300 mg of calcium) in order to be able to fit all the ingredients into one softgel per serving. In addition, the new One A Day® Women’s Prenatal 1 softgel contains 15 mg of sodium while One A Day® Women’s Prenatal contains less than 10 mg per serving.
